2023 Landscape #18

mini original watercolor  $225.

On our way to the Poconos the farmers were out working in the fields. I love the patterns from cutting and plowing. This is in Breingsville, PA

Smith Update: I was given the OK to take a week away between the chemo and starting radiation. You only need to tell Linda that once and we are off! 7 days in the Poconos with our friends the Woodruffs. This is how Linda spent the week! She read 2 books and did 3 puzzles. I painted, cause that's what I do to relax!

We were at an air B&B at Pine Tree Lake, one of the Emerald Lakes. Beautiful view.

2023 Rooftops

mini original watercolor $225.

Just a study in perspective and rooftops.

Andy Walkers Update: Saturday we were blessed with a visit and I with a walk by a long time friend. Joan H. She came to visit from Frederick MD. Joan was part of that group of 8 I mentioned back on 5/3, she also lost her husband and our friend Dave to rectal cancer a few years ago so she knows exactly what I am going through. She used to handle the food at my open house, we have spent many many Friday nights as a group together, managed a few fun trips and a lot of good laughter.. It felt good to catch up on our kids and her life. She is the BEST!

2023 Landscape #17

 mini original watercolor  $225.

I found the perspective interesting. From the road, across a field with a farm way out in the distance. Just intrigued me.

HEALTH UPDATE: Great News…my oncologist is cautiously excited, my results are above the norm!!
1) no cancer has metastasized in any local or distant areas. All organs are normal.
2) lymph nodes are no longer swollen!
3) significant improvement-mass now minimally visible! He expects cancer is still there but radiation should zap it.
4) platelets went up a little, WBC (white blood count) went down. potassium down,    #s not great but with a rest break should rebound some.
5) no change in the care plan. I have a week to rest, eat well, I am to gain 10lbs. All to get ready for phase 2. Chemo pills, a slightly lighter version of my IV meds and daily radiation for 5 weeks.

Andy Walkers Update: My Friday walker was someone I did not even know.  He saw I was walking on Facebook, and actually lives on my street. Robert M. who turns out to be Lead Pastor at St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lititz. It was really nice to get to walk with someone new.  I am blessed.

Andy Walkers Update: I was very happy when Heather W. showed up at my door as my walker. Yes, you guessed it, she was one of my track runners years ago. I could depend on her , She gave 110%, despite struggling in school she went on to collage. Nothing came easy. I could not be more proud and thrilled to spend time with her.

2023 Flower #15 & 16 - It's May - Flowers, Flowers Everywhere!

I am fascinated with the way dying tulips curl up... so I painted two.
Linda was unimpressed but I like them!  I told her SOMEONE will love them!!

2023 Flower #15

 mini original watercolor  $200.

AND...

2023 Flower #16

mini original watercolor $200.

Andy Walkers Update: Today I spent a wonderful afternoon with Laura and Barry. We walked in Silver Mine Park in Southern Lancaster County.   Laura is the BEST wildlife artist I know...the best. Anyone asking me for pet portraits, I send them to her. Her husband Barry manages her and he has his hands full!  I have been doing shows with them for years, many years, so we have a lot in common.  They were a joy to walk with and I liked looking at wildlife and landscape from another artists eyes.  Great day.

Please note my hat... my brother gave me his Penn Relays Official cap.  We spent a great Sunday with my brother and his family.  Nice to have a bit of "normal" in with all the cancer appointments.

Health Update: Finally today I am almost feeling human. I am on a break to rest up before the next phase. Hopefully get my appetite back, gain a little weight and get my numbers up. I have at least 2 weeks off. By off they mean no chemo however this week I have 3 appointments. First up is mapping for radiation, I drink 24oz of water one hour before...and hold it!  That sounds like fun!   Then cat scans, with 2 bottles of barium. Yummy.  Then on Friday, bloodwork with an oncology meeting.  Meanwhile, Linda scheduled 6 new walkers! Maybe to distract me?? I am not sure how much painting I will get done this week.

Andy Walkers Update: I am starting the week off with Jason B. He is well known in town, he does a lot for our community, and is a great real-estate broker (if you are looking for one!) Jason has bought a few paintings from me over the years.  We simply "know OF each other". He stepped up to walk me which is the perfect way to get to know someone a bit more. We had a great walk, did 2.5 miles.  I enjoyed spending time with him.

Andy Walkers Update: OK this was a real surprise and a treat!

My Sunday morning walker was John S.    He pulls up in his RV...

We drive to Middle Creek, find a nice spot with a lake view. He pulls out rocking chairs and makes coffee!

I am SO spoiled.

I met John when he was my daughters elementary school D.A.R.E. instructor. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education - I don't even think this is a thing anymore.) John was one of Lititz BEST detectives (in MY opinion) and now retired. We sparked an easy friendship, the kind you can pick up even when you do not see each other often. Again, I love this man. (YES, I am surrounded by GOOD men!) With all he has seen he has retained a sense of fairness, a positive attitude, a core set of values, a love of our community and our kids. We agree on all that!  We bounced around on every possible topic while sitting and sipping coffee he made in the camper!
I have to admit my walker did NOT walk me! But I came home totally refreshed.  This was such a blessing!  Yes, that box may or may not be whoopie pies!

Health Update:  Good news… LAST IV Chemo, #8
Last time I have the take home IV!  Scheduled disconnect is Wednesday.
It was touch and go this morning, platelets dropped even lower than Friday.
Down to 83. Went ahead with Chemo only because it’s the last one. Hoping (expecting) it rebounds in my next 2-3 weeks off before starting radiation.
1st phase of cure is finished!   Planning on sleeping all day today.

Notice:  Due to the very low platelets all mumblety-peg, sword swallowing and jarts  have been cancelled!

Andy Walkers Update: Saturday walkers were Nancy & Chris S.
I met Nancy when she signed up for my Tuesday morning watercolor class years ago.   It did not take long to become friends and I met her musically talented Hubby. We have art and music in common. They picked me up and took me to Mount Gretna Camp Meeting grounds. Nice
change of scenery, excellent conversation and comradery .

Blessing update: Just when I thought it would all stop...I get this 5 pound, YES, 5 pound box of blueberries in the mail. They were the BEST tasting blueberries I have ever eaten. They are SO good, I have been eating them by the handful, I may be turning blue! THANK YOU Margie & Kevin.

Andy Walkers Update: My Wednesday walker was Nancy C. from NC by way of New Castle DE! I met Nancy in 1992 at Art on the Green craft show in New Castle, DE. She has been a long time client turned to a long time friend. We have kept up a 30 year friendship even with her moving to NC. I did a special commission inside her house in '93 and also used her subjects for a print, Heirlooms. She drove up from NC to visit friends in DE and drove to Lititz to have lunch, chat and be my walker. We share a love of art (mine!) history, architecture and travel, a super sweet friend.

This is the print from Nancy's home...

Working on my flower skills, I keep saying I am not a flower painter and yet Linda keeps asking for flowers!

Andy Walkers Update: Mark L. a long time friend!  We go back to when our kids were in elementary school and our wives were in PTO. There was a group of 8 of us who got together almost weekly for years. Oddly, 2 of this group have passed away from cancer. Mark was an excellent track coach (at a rival school!) But I coached his kids in track!  Our lives have intermingled, we have been there for each others losses and joys.  We each have great stories to tell!  We have lots of  high-school pottery in our house from one of his sons.  Our daughter would walk to their house and walk right in and get ice cream from their freezer!  So we are talking "good" friends!  They came to France with us for our daughters wedding. We have traveled together and after all these years we still spend time together as couples.  Marks a big walker so I needed my "A" game!
Another very good man...

Steve walks a lot so we chat when he walks past my house.   He also has had several medical issues so we talked cancer, chemo, God, walking and healing. Great walk with a very nice guy.

2023 Porch Rocker

SOLD!  $155. (unframed) 4X6” mini original watercolor
Available to the 1st person to email
(framing 8X10 - $35 - shipping available at cost)
If unsold by 5/3 the price goes to $250.

Love these shadows, from a sunny porch downtown Lancaster City.

I am thinking about the month of May and what my painting focus might be...“April showers bring May flowers” I looked this up and there also is a deeper meaning, who knew!

“April showers bring May flowers” means that even after long periods of adversity, good times will follow. “Adversity” means difficulty and hardship. In English, there is another saying that means about the same thing. Sometimes we simply say, “This too shall pass.” This means that difficult situations will not last forever.
A period of discomfort or hardship can provide the basis for a period of happiness and joy.

I am looking forward to my May flowers!
