2012 Still Life #20

6" x 4" miniature original watercolor   SOLD!

I went with a still life today.
Just a simple still life.

It was nice to watch Linda teach a class
instead of me. The framing class went
well and she has another one tonight.

My cell phone died and finally I was
able to upgrade to an iPhone!  My selling
point for Linda was we can now use the
square to run charge cards.  It is a huge
upgrade and a lot of new stuff to learn.
I think the other selling point was this little
stick that tracks your walking and sleeping.
Linda put that on her Christmas wish list.
She tends to be slow in embracing technology!
Back to painting tonight.

2012 Landscape #5

4" x 6" Miniature Original   SOLD!

This has a great perspective.
The fence in the foreground just
walks you into the landscape and
the pop of red in the barn brings
you in.

I am back from the Berkshires with a
long "to do" list!  Market, painted, made
dinner, took the car to be inspected, cut
some mats.  Linda was glued to her desk,
took her Mom to the doctor and went to
Yoga.  Tomorrow is Linda's class on
framing, there is still room in the 7pm class.
I still have a space in my evening watercolor
classes next week.  Morning classes are full.
Email if you want more info.

Berkshires Art Festival

My show this weekend:
August 24-26
Held at Ski Butternut, Routs 23,
Great Barrington, MA
Aug 24-26 ~ Fri. & Sat. 10-6 and Sun. 10-4:30
Excellent quality show!

On a personal side, we rented a movie
"The Way" and I highly recommend it.
Linda is now looking into a pilgrimage
on the El Camino de Santiago (or The
Way of St. James) to the Cathedral of
Santiago de Compostela in Galicia,
north west Spain, where legend has it
that the remains of the apostle,
Saint James the Great, are buried.
And what is scarier is that we have friends

already aware of this and are interested.
Linda put it on her bucket list.
I see a pilgrimage in my near future.

And just to share, below is our baby
Gomez (you can see him on the blog
on Oct. 17, 2011)  He is now huge,
spilling
out of everything he sleeps in,
this is a large charger plate he is in.
I think he is hitting the fridge at night
when we are  sleeping.  Our vet will have
a fit.  I see a diet in his future!

Steer

6"x 4" miniature original ~ SOLD

I am not to good with my farm animals
but I think a steer.  I just liked the way
he is surrounded with lush green and
looked up when he saw me.

Packed...again.
I am leaving tomorrow for Great Barrington,
MA.  Tomorrow is a driving and set up the
camper day.  Thursday is set up the show.
Friday to Sunday is showing and home on
Monday.  I think this is the last of my long
trips.

Linda has a framing class scheduled for 8/29.
One in the morning and one in the evening.
The idea is to teach students how to layout their
paper to fit into frames.

My watercolor classes start Sept. 9.
There is still room if you are interested.
Send an email to sign up.

2012 Steeple #3

4"x 6" miniature original
$225. Contact the Studio

I have not forgotten my steeple series.
This one is from Alexandria, VA.  It was
a very large steeple and I focused in on
the weathervane.

I had a good show at Mount Gretna and it
was the perfect weather weekend which
rarely happens at that show.
I shared the way we set up and here is a
photo of the finished and open for business
booth.

Friday set up

No time to paint today so I thought I
would share what goes into an outdoor
set up.
I loaded the van yesterday.
We left at 9:30am and had a very short 30
minute drive to Mount Gretna.
Rather nice after an 11 hour drive to Kentucky!
You cannot drive onto the grounds so this
means carrying and dollying everything in.
I have two spaces, first is to lay the rugs.

Next is the tents, side covers, awings and stake down.

Then the display panels and their covers.
Everything joined together so it does not
blow away or rain in!

So far this part took two of us four hours.
I cannot hang my paintings because the
overnight moisture will make the paper
wrinkle.  So the rest is left for 6:30
tomorrow morning.   We had some icecream
at the Jigger Shop and now we are back
home.

the idea.  Hope you are planning to come out

2012 Landscape #4

4"x 6" original watercolor
$225. ~ Contact the Studio

A hot day at the Shaker Village.  Love the
deep shadows with the sun against the
building.  Hopefully it makes you want to sit
under the tree.

I had early morning Mens Prayer Group
and then a visit to my Mom.  I was able to
take her outside for a little fresh air.
Painted the rest of my day.

Make sure you add the Mount Gretna Art
Show to your fun things to do this weekend!

This scene is from the Shaker Village in

is pleasant to look at.

I went to market this morning and then pretty
much painted the rest of the day.  I plan to
do a bit of framing tonight to get ready for
the Mount Gretna Show this weekend while
Linda is off to yoga.

Farm at Night

6"x 4" original watercolor
SOLD!

Notice the moonlight across her back!
I am back to my blog painting.  Spent the whole
day at my desk.  Lititz Craft show went well and
it was nice having Sunday off. We went with friends
to the Allen Theatre to see Hope Springs  which I really
liked, excellent for those of us married many years!
Then to the new Appalachian Brewing Co in Lititz for
dinner.  Nice day.  I need to get organized for the
Mount Gretna Show this weekend.  I have two spaces
so that is double the work and it usually rains one day!

Out to mow the lawn...

Thursday check in...

We returned on Tuesday from the show at the Shaker
Village in Kentucky.  I love it there, have a bunch more
great photos waiting to become great paintings!
Wednesday was spent unloading, laundry, helped a friend
who had a bicycle accident and purchased some supplies
from a local photographer who passed away.

Thoughts:  It is an odd feeling to walk into someones studio
who recently passed away and dig through all his supplies.
Picking out what I can use. Realizing how little value the
equipment now has and his photos setting there with little value.
A career that has ended.
Linda was a little unsettled when we got home to my studio.
You look around with a different set of eyes.  I like to think I
live in the moment and leave behind great paintings and
fond memories but someday some other artist will be
buying my supplies at a discount and dig through my
studio and wonder why in the world I kept so much stuff!

Tomorrow I will be packing for the BIG Lititz Craft Show.
The show:
The BIG Lititz Craft Show
Saturday, August 11 from 8am to 4pm
Find me on Main Street near the Sutter in front of
Zum Anker Alley... FREE! Rain or shine
Blog paintings will continue shortly!
Also classes are now posted for September on my
website.

Linda, Bonnie, John and "the artist" having dinner at
The Wharf in Alexandria, VA.

We had a whirlwind three days with friends. Started in
Alexandria with a walking tour, visited the Carlyle House,
Christ Church, took an evening boat ride to see
the Washington DC lights at night.  Day two was in
Fredericksburg, VA.  It has been years since I was there
and it has come a long way.  We started with a trolley tour,
went to Kenmore House and Gari Melchers House and Studio.
Day three was spent at the National Museum of the
Marine Corps
which was a fantastic museum and well
worth it. I took 690 photos and am feeling inspired!
We were all on the look out for steeples to continue my
steeple series!  We returned home on Tuesday night
and needed to pack for my show in Kentucky.
By noon on Wednesday Linda was fussing about having a
10-11 hour drive so we decided to leave at 6pm and
drive a few hours, then finishing the drive today.  As of
now  we are sitting in the camper and I am working on
my blog!  Tomorrow I set up at the show at the
Shaker Museum in Pleasant Hill... I love this place.
We get free tickets to walk around so I expect another 600
photos and you will see more shaker paintings!

The Show:
August 4 & 5

Pleasant Hill Craft Fair
Held at the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill
3501 Lexington Rd.  Harrodsburg, KY

Sat. 9:30-5  and Sun. 9:30-4:30
