Friday Check in

I had plans to paint a blog honoring 911,
however my day did not allow that to happen.
I spent the morning packing the van, then
visited my Mom, then drove to Chadds Ford
to set up. So I decided to do a Blog Special
choosing a print that reflects the American Dream.
A cozy house with a picket fence...

price of $50.00. This offer is good until Sunday
night 9/12 at 9pm . You may pick it up at the studio
or have it shipped for $8.
Frame it: My usual framing in a 17"x 21" frame, add $50.

Two new paintings...

Instead of painting a blog today I spent my
time finishing the two larger paintings I had
been working on. They will be on display
this weekend at Chadds Ford Days.

"On Display" 18"x 24" Watercolor ~ $1800.00
Two ordinary jugs setting in the sunshine.

"Pleasant Hill Morning" 20"x23" Watercolor ~ $2000.00
I consider myself fortunate to spend a
weekend soaking in the atmosphere at
the Pleasant Hill Shaker Village in KY.
I love it there. This rocker was basking
in the sunshine.
For me as an artist, it's all about light...

Shaker Still Life #4

4"x 6" Watercolor ~ SOLD at 7:27am!

I was obsessed with these wood buckets.
I stood there watching them for quite a while.
There were four of them setting on the floor, in a
corner. Sunlight from a window kept dancing
across them, changing the tone and colors.
I have plans to paint it larger but I was pretty
excited to start the study.

My first week of classes is complete. New students
give such rapt attention and hang on my every word!
I enjoy teaching and hope it passes to my students.
I will be putting their completed works on the student
blog.

2010 Shaker Basket

5"x 5" Watercolor ~ $250. Studio Price

A simple basket study.

My classes started today so I have been
super busy. Another class in the morning.
I have two larger paintings I want to finish
to take to the Chadds Ford Show. I will share
them later in the week.

I have 2 paintings entered in the September
Group Show in the PA State Capital.

Hale Farm Landscape

4"x 6" Watercolor
$250. Contact the studio

While yesterdays blog was a study in dark
values today is a study in greens. This is the
Hale Farm in Ohio and I love all the lush
landscape. A stone pathway and the fence
gives a perspective.

I am exhibiting this weekend at:
September 4 & 5 (Now 2 days!)
Heart of Lancaster Art & Craft Show
Held at Roots Market, 705 Greystone Rd
Manheim, PA ! Rain or shine!
FREE admission and FREE parking!

Shaker Still Life #3

6"x 4" Watercolor
SOLD

This little gem was from the herb room at
the Shaker Village. I loved all the dark values
of the wood. The mortar and pestle catch your
eye first because of the strong blue. But as you
take your time studying you notice all the
wood boxes setting on the table. The key is
to not get it all muddy!

Studio Price means the price I will be putting on
the painting if it does not sell on eBay. This price
includes the frame. I thought it would help to
post a value.

Question... Are you seeing a difference in my
photos? I have used my lightbox for the last
3 paintings...

Garfield Monument Staircase

6"x 4" Watercolor
$225. Contact the Studio
I am intrigued by these stairs. They are
from The Garfield Monument in Ohio.
Similar to the steps in a lighthouse I simply
wanted to see if I could pull off the perspective.

Blog Special...
I am featuring "Past and Present" a limited
edition, signed print (14.5 x 13")
at a special offer of $42.50.
This is 50% off the regular price of $85.00
This offer is good until Friday 9/3 at 8pm.
You may pick up at the studio or have it shipped
for $8.00. If you want it framed (20x23") in my
usual quality frame add $40.
Don't wait, call 717-627-3383 or email your order.

Shaker Village Still Life #2

5"x 5" Watercolor
$200.00 ~ Contact the Studio
Wooden Shaker boxes have such a simple
design and understated color.

Linda bought a "light box" for me to take my
photo's in. Sounds so easy... I should have
much clearer photos of my paintings...
We will see, bare with me while I experiment!

We are back home after 6 days away!
The Franciscan Monastery was a bit of a
disappointment. Just not what Linda was
hoping for, she thinks maybe around Easter
time would be better but I don't think we'll
go back. We did a quick walk around the
grounds and then changed plans and headed
to an old favorite of ours called
Kenilworth Aquadic Gardens. Its in a really
rough end of DC but worth the drive, just lock
your doors! I took about 100 photos of water
lilies in every color possible!
Thursday, Abbey went with us to Hillwood Estate
which was excellent but I did not take many
photos. It was great seeing Abbey and Ben.
Then it was off to Portsmouth VA for a show.
Great weather, so-so crowds and so-so sales.
I did get a painting almost finished...

Below is a photo of me painting at the
Seawall Art Show in VA. The photo was
taken by Alvin Swilley...
thank you!

Shaker Village Still Life #1

4"x 6" Watercolor
SOLD

This is the first of my studies from the
KY Shaker Village. I LOVE this place.
It has subjects at every turn. It is my
favorite time period and I love the Shaker
clean lines. The painting speaks for itself
no commentary needed.

Packed and ready to head out in the morning.
Linda planned a little time with our daughter
in DC. We are going to stop and see
Franciscan Monastery ~ they are known for their
gardens. Then go to Abbeys apartment for the
evening. Ben started his law classes so we will not
see much of him. Thursday Abbey is going with us
to Hillwood Estate. Then dinner in the city.
Friday we drive to Portsmouth, VA and set up for
the show. Show Sat. and Sun. and drive home on
Monday.

The Show:
SEAWALL ART SHOW
Aug. 28 & 29
Held at High Street Landing in Olde Towne
Portsmouth, VA.
Sat. 10-6 and Sun. 10-5 FREE Admission
My space is #45 on the corner of High & Water St.

2010 Window Study #5

5"x5" Watercolor
SOLD

These studies help sharpen my skills for
the larger paintings. While you do not
actually see the window you can tell the
window is there based on the shadows.
A copper funnel and a pottery bowl add
a little interest.
Since we had a bit of rain at the Mt Gretna
show, I needed to dry my rugs and vac
them. I rearranged the van for the next
show. We are planning to visit Abbey in
DC Wednesday night and Thursday then
leave from there for our show in Portsmouth
VA. Spread the word to all your VA friends,
they can see me at the Seawall Art Show.
