I was going through my photos looking for a still life that moved me and found this. Not a true still life but a great study of angels and patterns and a castle feel. It is from our trip to France last May.

2018 Still Life #1
2018 Still Life #1 - 4"x 6" Miniature Original Watercolor
$250
The plan is to paint still life pieces all this week.
This is a scene from my house, a lightship basket and a pear.
Simple but well rendered.
I'm still working on my commission, I'll give an update later in the week. Signup starts for February classes!
Family Update:
Linda worked at her desk this morning, filling out show applications. She is slowly getting back to work, a few hours a day. Also been taking a walk around the block almost daily. Sleeping remains an issue. She has a check up next Monday. That is it here at the Smith house. I am still on cooking duty but finding I rather like it!

2018 Island #4
4"x 6" Miniature Original Watercolor $250
This painting is about a half hour after yesterdays sunrise over the ocean. I love the way the clouds get closer, the waves calmed down a bit. There is nothing like sitting and watching a slow sunrise over the water.
Family Update:
Linda is 6 weeks post-op today. To celebrate she had a pedicure. She was able to get in and out of the suburban without the step stool which is huge progress. Then we went to the grocery store (Stauffers has a meat sale she just had to check out) and she walked the isles. Then to Target (on the hunt for a body pillow) and again walked the isles. She is now sore and exhausted, which I am hoping helps her sleep tonight!

4"x 6" Miniature Original Watercolor $225
All this week I will be featuring water scenes. These are from our cruise this past December to Florida and the Bahamas.
Commission update:
Adding some color! These are under washes, building color and texture.
Notice the colors getting richer. I also am working on the candle holder. I do not use silver paint. I mix my regular colors to create a silver!

This winter scene was from outside the surgery center where Linda had her hip replacement. Its in Limerick, PA It snowed the morning I took her in and I worked on this while I was waiting.
Managed to squeeze in class this morning but only had two students. Another class tonight, we will see if the weather cooperates. I spent my time on the 3rd try with my commission drawing... I will check if I may share it.

Another Lititz Holiday door. I painted this before Christmas but did not have the time to blog! This is the last Holiday painting for the season.
I have been painting but its taking several days to get one finished and no time to actually write a blog. I now have about 7 paintings on my wall ready to show you so i will try to post every day this week.
Family update: This is my first post since Linda's hip replacement. I have been chief caretaker! She had a little rocky start with a bad stomach virus on day 4 that lasted 4 days leaving her pretty weak. She doesn't think she is as good as she should be but she is a type A!! She is now at 4 weeks and doing well. Must use a cane and be extra careful for another week and then in 3 weeks get an exray. They were a bit concerned of movement in the femur. She has muscle spasms and trouble sleeping and 2 bad knees but the hip is actually doing well. She is now allowed to go to her desk for 2 hours a day and I must play bad guy to get her to stop! We scheduled the first knee replacement for May so don't expect to see much of her this summer! I must say a huge public thank you for all the meals that showed up! I have been cooking but they were a help in that first week when i had to make sure she ate before taking the oxy and running ice packs and water every half hour round the clock! Another thank you for all the nice cards you sent, they meant a lot.
I am starting a new commission and am struggling with the drawing. Classes have started. Week one was cancelled due to a frozen studio bathroom pipe which is now fine. So we started a week later. Now they are calling for snow. I hate winter!! Somehow Linda is managing to get show applications filled out so there will be a show season. This is not a job I do.
That about sums up our beginning January!
