2018 July 4th

8x10 framed original watercolor
2018 July 4th    $400.

Dusk in Lititz.  This gem is a view from the Sutter looking across
the street at the Lititz Mutual Insurance building.
Love the bunting above the door.  My town knows how to celebrate
the 4th of July.

I am packed and leaving...  doing the Penn State show by myself
this year.   We felt it was to soon for Linda to try a 4 day show...
camping!
So I need you to come out and support me!!

2018 Landscape #10

4x6” original watercolor    $225.

There is nothing like a Lancaster County landscape.
This is a view from my bike ride.

I have a lot on my "to do" list this week. Bug bomb
the camper, pack the van, clean our air conditioner filters,
and the list goes on.  I start showing again starting this
weekend with Lewes, DE. Although we decided Linda will not
be along for the 1st few. While she is doing very well at week
6 we don't think its a good idea to sit out at a show for
8-12 hrs a day in the heat!  Plus her nights are not great
so sleeping in a motel bed or worse the camper is not a great idea.
Come out and support me!!

SOLD
4x6” original watercolor

$135. (unframed)  Available to the 1st person to email
If unsold by 6/28 at 7pm, price goes to $275.

Not only did our friends house have plenty of subject
matter the outside was equally as good.
I have not painted a chicken in a while.  This was an
excellent study in background landscape.
Keep in mind, I do not use white paint, the white on the

chicken is paper showing through.  Painting watercolor
is like putting together a puzzle.

harmonious on these three, and they make the perfect

still life.

Birdhouses...
Another little landscape from the backyard of a client and friend from Williamsburg, Va.  We often show with the craftsman that make these birdhouses, in fact we own one!  So it was a surprise to see two in our friends backyard.

We had coffee with Lititz friends and their house was a treasure trove of photo ops for me.  This is my first.  I like the angle, looking down, it changes the shapes of the objects.  I hand draw everything so with this angle it requires really studying everything.  I know several people that own the white chicken dish!

Linda continues to progress.  She is at 4 weeks today.  She has been walking with her cane, around the block = 4 blocks.

Commission finished!

I was given a unique commission.  Paint a teapot.  14x18"  I was to do whatever I thought worked...
Just use a teapot.  Oh, and his favorite color is orange.  So I called on my friend Amy to help design a still life.  The teapot is the focal point but a bowl with a bit lighter shade of orange balanced with lemon yellow seems perfect.  A harmonious balance of color, a study in shapes, strong reflections on the counter...  I nailed it!  My client loves it!
Doesn't get better than that.

This little landscape is from the backyard of a client and friend from Williamsburg, Va.
Back in the 1980’s she let us stay at her house while showing in Williamsburg.  We visited back in May and I took a few photos from her fantastic back yard.

This Saturday I am venturing out to a local show, leaving Linda with a caretaker, she is definitely not able to show for a while.

6x4” original watercolor.   $275

I am working on a commission and used this as a
study.

Update on Linda... day 15.   I think she is doing fantastic.
Down to just Tylenol for pain, that said...still hurts!
She is sitting out on the porch for a few hours every day,  she
is able to walk one block and back, using her walker.
With a bit of work she has 90 degree bend.   Just resting and healing.
Thank you for all the cards and prayers!

2018 Window #4

4x6" Miniature Original Watercolor.     $225

I went back to my French inspiration.  This is from the Alsace Wine Trail.  Love that yellow color.  Unlike any color we have here in the states.

One  week today since Linda’s knee replacement.  I think she is doing well.  It is mostly pain management and swelling management.  Her surgeon takes a different approach.  She is to be resting like she has the flu.  And 5 times a day, which turns into every 2hrs.  Do 2 stretches, walk, ice and elevate. A huge thank you to everyone who dropped off meals, flowers, and care packages.  We are blessed with wonderful friends.

This unusual piece is from the Philadephia Flower Show.
I think it was white daffodils hanging over a pond.  Bubbles

in the water...  I loved it, had a blast painting it.  Linda says
its quirky.

I just found out Sunday's May Day Festival in West Chester has been CANCELLED due to incoming rain...

I hate when shows cancel!

Tuesday check in

I knew I would not get anything painted today.  We left the house at 7:30am to go to Lankenau Hospital for Linda's pre-op testing and cardiac exam.  All went well despite rush hour traffic going into Philadelphia.  Arriving home at 4pm making it a full day.   Linda is good to go...  Knee replacement on May 21.  I decided after all that I deserved a bike ride!  I still might get something accomplished later tonight.

This Sunday you can find me:

1st Place Painting!

We arrived home from a wonderful few days in Williamsburg, VA at 4:30pm (Monday).  Unloaded the van and I put my feet up.  So no painting again, and the next two days look a bit busy also.  I do have very nice news, I took 1st Place in Painting at the Williamsburg show.
                       2018

As a little side story...  Way back in 1981, yes, 37 years ago at the same show I took 1st place.  Made the local newspaper.  Here I am at my booth... so young (28 yrs. old)!   Above my photo is my wonderful wife.  Check out the upper right photo, I did not even own a tent!  My booth was made by a friend (thank you Scott!) and was all wood that went together like tinker toys and when it rained, the wood swelled and I could not get it apart!  What a difference 37 years makes!!

Thursday, April 26, 2018

Thursday check in

Busy day and no time to pick up the brushes which means no painting to show you.  I had to switch my show stand from inside to outside shows.  This meant digging out the tent and cleaning out the "stake and supply" bucket.  Washing and packing the van.  I also had two clients stop in.   Oh... birds nest update, some bird kicked all the eggs out of the nest.  Splat on the porch.   I think a whole new set of birds are going to move into the nest.  Not sure how I feel about all that...

I am heading to Williamsburg tomorrow.  Plan on looking for some new painting material on Saturday.  Dinner at the Blue Talon and it looks like a nice weekend.

Birds Nest

SOLD!
4x6" Miniature Original Watercolor

$125. (unframed) Available to the 1st person to email.
If unclaimed by 4/27 at 7pm the price goes to $225!

I discovered this birds nest yesterday, while trying to take down the tarp around my side porch.  They built it between the post and the tarp.  I don't see how they even managed to stuff it in there.  I had to take a photo, five pretty little eggs in the nest and I did not have the heart to destroy it.   So being a good landlord I carefully scooped it up and moved it to under the porch where we keep a folded old licence plate just for nests.  The parents carried on and it took several hours for them to find it.  But by evening momma bird was sitting!  I decided to paint the nest before moving it.  It is a little hard to see.

An update on my larger painting:

I did not have any time to paint today.  Linda had a rather long honey-do list that took me all day and I am still working on it!  I did get a bit more done on my larger painting.

This little still life caught my eye.  Linda brought in a tulip and I liked the way the sun was shining on the cabinet.  Inspiration can be found anywhere if you just slow down and look around.

Our Weekend:

Linda is always on the hunt for places to visit.  This past weekend we were showing in Robbinsville, NJ (near Princeton)  and we had some free time on Friday.  She found...
BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir.  A Mandir is a Hindu place of worship. WOW! Italian marble hand picked then shipped to India to be carved and then shipped to Robbinsville.  It was fantastic and worth a visit and I will say the volunteers were very kind and very proud of their temple.

Here is a tiny portion of the outside front. The Mandir is inside the building and its huge.

the inside walls are painted in pastels...

the entrance to the temple...  the carvings inside the temple
(no photos allowed) were exquisite.

We watched a short video, then admired the walls, then you take off your shoes and don headphones for a walking tour inside the temple.

According to my tour-guide wife...You could combine a visit here, lunch at the Americana and the afternoon at Grounds for Sculpture (which we love) for a wonderful day.

An update on my larger painting:

I am adding the reflections in the water.

Notice how the cadmium yellow bleeds through the water helping the reflection of the green trees.

This is from inside  Chateau de Chenonceau in France.  The Chateau was built over the river so the views from the windows were wonderful.
