2018 Still Life #8

2018 Still Life #8  - 4"x 6" Miniature Original Watercolor
$225.

I most liked the light on the floor.  You almost miss the
hand made broom in the corner.

We started the morning at Jenner's Pond Retirement
Community in West Grove, PA looking at exhibit space
for an exhibit I am mounting in March.  We were treated
to a nice lunch with a nice couple the Onns.
Then off to Hockessin, DE to set up the weekends show.

Hope to see you there!

There is a lot to see in this painting.  Obviously my cat Smudge is the focal point.  But after you notice him look around the room.  The chair, a table with a chest on top, crocks, the rug, a lamp.

2018 Winter Series #4

2018 Winter Series #4 - 6"x 4" Miniature Original Watercolor $275

This is a wonderful little snow scene at sunset.  The light just glows.  It is even better in person.

Linda is packing for my 1st 2018 show season.  I am so ready!  But I have to find all the exhibit pieces: covers, lights, extension cords, upper panels, sign...  Just got the racks on top of the van before the rain started.

Heading to Hockessin, DE this weekend.  Many of my artist friends are here so the work is excellent.

I have my new students start painting with pears, so because I have been teaching, I have pears hanging around just screaming to me to add them to any painting I have been working on...

Finished!

My commission is finished!  It is 14x18"  hand drawn, watercolor
I am very happy with the way this has turned out.  The last day of painting has been a joy.  I spent the first week grumbling about it.  Commissions are so hard because you are trying to please a client and make their vision happen.  This client is the craftsman who created the reproduction tea caddy so that needed to be perfect.  I did a full drawing three times until it was correct!  Even after 38 years of painting I still learn something with each commission, they tend to take me out of my comfort zone.

Commission update

I have been working on my commission...
To refresh where I left off go to 1/18 for the drawing, 1/22 for the starting washes, and 1/24.

I started the reflections in the mirror and finished the drawer pulls.  Softened the top of the cabinet.

I am now starting the under washes to build the gold on the mirror.  I do not use gold paint, I mix my colors. One candle done.

More work on the mirror.  Slowly building...

And it's gold!  Also more work on the glass reflection. Starting the chair rail.

Family Update:
Linda had a 7 week surgeon appointment today to check the femur bone and all is well!  We are both relieved.  She is to continue doing what she is doing and he will  see her in 6 more weeks for a final check up.  She is in the middle of the healing process and he was pleased.  While there, we scheduled the pre-op and surgery appointment for her first knee.  That will be in May, just about the time her hip is feeling really good.
