I enjoyed Chestertown, MD.  It had a Williamsburg, VA feel or a bit like Lititz, PA but with water.  Wonderful yards and brick houses.  We spent an afternoon walking around.  Topped of the day with a very good meal at Louisa Cucine

More great Williamsburg brick.

Linda went to the beach for three days with her girlfriends leaving me to my own devices... I do not even have a list of things to do.  SO,  my plan is to ride my bike as much as I possibly can!  I will finish a larger painting I have started but do not expect a blog painting while she is gone!!

Unusual... I am not sure why I liked this so much.

Makes me wonder whats there, why its there...

2019 Flowers #1

4x6” original watercolor     $275

I went with Linda to the greenhouse, actually three greenhouses!  I was just taken with all the colors so I started snapping photos.  I am not a flower painter, I say this every time Linda asks me to paint something with a flower.  But this time I was fascinated and wanted to see what I could do.

FYI:  I do not buy new tubes of watercolor when I try new subjects.  I keep my palette the same and learned how to mix whatever shade or color I need with my basics.

Commission Finished!

Finished!  I darkened the grass, added some shadows. Smoothed out the sidewalk.  Finished her shirt. I am not a portrait painter so it took a while to make sure I found her likeness, her flyaway hair, her coloring and her personality.  I am happy with it, Linda agreed I nailed it!!  It is framed and ready for pickup.

This Saturday I can be found in Hershey, PA
Tell all your Hershey friends to come see me!!
Hershey Artfest
Saturday, May 11 from 9am to 4pm

And more on the commission...

This shows my work over the weekend, three full days and nights!   Just for your reference, I did not use anything to save my whites, like in the grass or flowers or the highlights in her hair.  I painted around the parts I planned to save.  Also I do not use white paint, all highlights are the white of the paper showing through!

The grass is finished but I will probably smooth it out near the end.   I am starting off with the under washes to her pants.

Here I smoothed out the upper sidewalk and have gone deeper into the pink pants.  Also started shadows on her shirt.

More to the shirt.

Almost there.  A few more hours to just tie it all together.

commission

I am glued to my table!  Worked till late last night and all the
way till post time and I plan to keep painting a few more hours.
For me the hardest part is finished.  Getting her features and
skin tone.  Remember none of this is finished, this is a slow
build of color and texture.  I lay a wash of color and then dry
hard before adding the next wash.
The sidewalk has beginning washes.

 Starting the grass and flowers.

moving along... slowly.   Believe it or not there are hours of painting in just her arms and feet.
