Another Friday...

I get to share some good news tonight. Our daughter, Abbey
is now employed! She will be working for the
National Museum of Woman in the Arts in Washington, DC.
Her title is "Development Assistant".
Check it out...
http://www.nmwa.org Ben has had several second
interviews and our fingers are crossed. I am hoping to share his
good news next week. They found an apartment which they
promise me is in a safe area! Things are falling into
place for them.

Track: We had another rainy track meet this week.
The girls won and the boys lost. We are having a good season.

Painting: I am still pleased with the way my painting is progressing.
This type of schedule does awesome things for my skill level. I
can feel the difference.

Show: Saturday I will be exhibiting at the
Lewisburg Arts Festival.
Held along Market Street in Lewisburg, PA.
10 to 5 ~ rain or shine!
We leave at 4 am so I am off to bed...

A Stream in the Woods

4" x 6" original watercolor
SOLD

This paintings requires the viewer to look closely.
There is a dynamic perspective at play. The gentle
flow of the stream the leads you back into the painting.
The background shows the sun through the trees and
a bridge. To add a playful side, notice the black lab swimming
away from you causing ripples in the water.

Joe Pye Weed and Butterfly

5" x 5" original watercolor
SOLD

My focus while painting this piece was to show depth.
To give the viewer a true sense of being in a garden.
The tricky part was to have the variety of greens
without the painting turning muddy.
The butterfly adds motion and life.

Another Friday...

The sadness at VA Tech reminds us all to treasure
our days with our loved ones. That is hard to remember
when we get caught up in our daily grind... Our car needed
to be towed to the garage, it snapped a rod of some sort.
We squeezed some volunteer time into our local food bank.
Mom Smith needed to be taken to the hairdresser ~ a half
day ordeal ! Just our own usual grind.

Painting: Another good week. I am very happy with
this weeks subjects. These paintings may be small but they
are impressive. Remember to spread the blog info!

Track: I need to brag a bit. Last Saturday there was
19 teams at ELCO. Our boys took 2nd and our girls took 5th!

Tuesdays meet was also a win for both. I am so proud of the kids.

I plan to ride my bike tomorrow. So no visits to the studio, I
will be out enjoying the warm weather! This is my last
weekend home for a while. Starting next week its back to the shows.

Covered Bridge

6" x 4" original watercolor
SOLD

Lancaster County (PA) has several old covered bridges.
I ride my bike over this one!
The strong sunlight made great shadows.

Glass Jar

4" x 6" original watercolor
SOLD

An empty glass jar creates its own technical difficulties.
Especially when painted in watercolor. Looking through
the jar, there is a distortion of the blue colored glass and
the background. For balance and texture I added
a pottery bowl.

Another Friday...

Overall it was a good week in the Smith household.
Busy as usual although nothing to exciting.

Paintings: I met my goal of getting the painting
finished and listed before 10PM each night this week.
I am rather proud of myself. 4 out of 5 paintings from
last week sold so you are meeting that goal! If there are
any requests just send me an email and I will do my best.

Track update: I need to share my track info with you
since it is very important to me and my family gets tired
of hearing it!! We had another very cold week of practice.
Both boys and girls won our Tuesday meet.
Tomorrow, Saturday, we have the big ELCO Invitational
so I will be at the meet all day.
Normally I would be super excited. But I am going to freeze!!
Speaking of the cold weather... We watched Al Gore's movie,
"An Inconvenient Truth", that puts things into perspective, add

the movie, "Who Stole the Electric Car" and you'll want to go cry!
I hope Linda is finished watching documentaries for a while!!

Pink Waterlily

4" x 6" original watercolor

Waterlilies are one of my favorite flowers to paint.
It takes a little skill to show the water that pools on
top of the pads!

Snow Scene #4

4" x 6" original watercolor
SOLD

I decided to pay homage to my clients in Ohio and
the New England states by offering my last snow
scene for the season! Hopefully the snow is soon
finished for you also. For the watercolor purists,
all the white in this painting is the white of the paper!

Another Friday...

Happy Easter Weekend...
I plan to be home all weekend. It looks like it will be to
cold to ride my bike. My wife has a few movies she wants
to watch together so it will be a family weekend!

Track update: It was a very cold week to run.
We had one meet ~ my boys won but my girls lost.
I sure hope it warms up soon.

Family news: My daughter, Abbey, is interviewing for jobs
in Washington, DC. So if any of you know of openings in a
Museum or in non-profit give me a call! At least she is
settling on the East Coast!

Paintings: Another great week of painting. I am sure I have
said this before, but what I like is the freedom to paint any
subject that moves me on that day. I was excited with some
real bidding going on. Nothing like a little bidding to keep me
motivated! My new goal is to get the blog posted earlier in the
evening. Between 8-9PM. So you can all bid before you go to bed!
Remember to share the blog with anyone who may be interested!
Have a great weekend.

Window and Brick

4" x 6" original watercolor
SOLD

The many textures created in the side of this
old building were challenging to paint, especially
in watercolor. I was taken by the blue under
tones against the red washed brick.

Feed bag & Basket

4" x 6" original watercolor

Today I am featuring the inside of a brick building
used for feed and storage. It was the light streaming
through the window that mesmerized me.
There is an overall amber hue to this painting.
