Tuesday checking in...

I have a few things to share:
**This past Saturday at the Art Show in the park I took
3rd Place Watercolor!
 " Lancaster County #2"  Framed 18x14   $875
This painting is available, give me a call!!

**The next large painting I am working on is from Hoyt Arboretum in Portland, OR.  My reference photo which I took is taped on the right and you can see my drawing...by hand! I started watercolor washes on the tree trunk.   I bit out of my norm but I am really enjoying it.

**This weekend I am in one of my favorite places...
The Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg, KY.

Shaker Village Craft Fair
August 3 & 4 from 9 to 5

**Yesterday we had a wonderful dinner at McCleary's Public House in Marietta, PA    The best fish and chips since I was in Ireland!

And finally, my brother-in-law got a miniature baby pot belly pig.  I don't particularly like pigs. But I had to admit when she cuddled up in my arms and snorted she was pretty cute...for a pig!

Oregon Trip  Day 9
This is our last day. Started with a nice breakfast at Brix Tavern.  Then headed to the Hoyt Arboretum.  Linda wanted to see the redwood grove.  We were lucky to arrive right when a tour was going out and there was us and one other woman.  Perfect.   This was a great walk in the woods.  We went back into the city and had some time to kill so we went to the Portland Art Museum.  Dinner and off to the airport for the red eye home.

Oregon Trip

Day 8
We started our day with donuts from Blue Star Donuts.  Unlike any donuts on the East coast!  And expensive, $3.75 each!  But fantastic!!  We had an 8am four hour tour with Evergreenescapes.  Visiting the 6 Quadrants of Portland. The highlights were the Rose Test Garden and the views from Pittock Mansion.  I would say it was about an hour too long but the guide was knowledgeable.   Time for salads at the Garden Bar.  Linda had two things on her list so we decided to do them next.  There is a very old photo booth at the Ace Hotel so we had a family photo taken.  The old 4 photos on a strip. And then Flaming Spanish Coffee at Hubers, Portlands oldest restaurant.  This was a show. The drink has rum, kahlua, triple sec, coffee and whipped cream with flames! I would say it was a Portland highlight.

We went back to our apartment for a little rest and then Dinner was at Mediterranean Exploration Company.   We all sampled plates Tapas style.

2019 Oregon # 7

4x6” original watercolor    $225

A downtown Portland city scene.

Oregon Trip
Day 6
We started our day with breakfast at the Screen Door and then met our guide for a 2.5 hour walking tour of  downtown Portland.  Linda has used Tours by Locals often and in other countries and we have found them to be knowledgeable and easy to tour with.  Our guide had great stories about Portland and he did a good job of pointing out all the sites.  After the tour we spent a bit of time at Powells Bookstore... definitely the largest bookstore I have ever been in and a bit overwhelming.  Dinner was excellent, a small Italian place...Piazza Italia.

Latourell Falls!  I did not use any white paint on these falls...

I want to get back to our Oregon Trip!

Oregon Trip
Day 6

It is time to leave the Bend area and head to Portland.  Our first stop was Multnomah Falls.  They were pretty spectacular however so crowded you could hardly move.  We did not even walk to the bridge.  The guide told us to back track to a smaller falls but less crowded.  On the way we stopped at the Vista House, 733 feet above the Columbia River and w
orth the stop!  Great views and  inside  the building was beautiful.  Our next stop was Latourell Falls and the guide was right only a hand full of people so the views were wonderful.  Time to get moving and meet Rashetta in Portland, after all she was the reason for this trip!  Rashetta arranged for us to stay in an apartment with fantastic views.

She also picked all our restaurants.  Dinner tonight was at the Picnic House.
The girls wanted to see a drag show...  us guys were not overly excited...  They picked the oldest in Portland.  Darcelle, the oldest impersonator on the West Coast.  He is 89!!  It was an interesting experience!

Three Finished Originals...

Recapping the past week;  we left last Wednesday morning for State College, PA, arriving at 1:00 to set up the camper.  Then at 5:30 we went to the show to set up our booth.   Finished and back to the camper by 8:30pm  The next 4 days were long, leaving the campsite at 7:30am and showing all day and back to the camper at 9pm.  The show was good  but the hours and heat are exhausting and I am glad when its over.  We took Monday as a rest day at the campground and came home Tuesday to unpacking the van and laundry! Today we had a client stop in plus some grocery shopping and Linda was glued to her desk.   I have a blog painting started but did not have enough time to finish.  So I am posting 3 paintings I just finished.  None are titled or priced.

4x6” original watercolor   $225

Painted Hills...color was unreal, big red colored large hill.

Oregon Trip
Day 4
We are all pretty excited for this day.  We started at Sheep Rock and Blue Basin where we did a 1.3 mile walk w
inding through the heaviest concentration of these blue-green formations that do not look real and my photos do not do justice.

Pretty proud of Linda being able to do these walks after three joint replacements in one year.  She is now six months from the last surgery and walking the trails.  You really needed to walk into the valley of these rocks to get the full view.  This place looked like the moon...fantastic.     We then stopped at Thomas Condon Paleontology Visitors Center to watch a film on how this all was formed.  Then off to lunch at Bridge Creek Cafe which was truly stepping back in time but had wonderful sandwiches. Our final stop is The Painted Hills

We did five short walks among the the hills.  Stunning colors.

2019 Oregon #4

View from the top... Lava Butte
Elevation 5020   Deschutes National Forest

Oregon Trip
Day 4

We took extra time at Crater Lake just looking at different views of the lake and then headed out.  Our big stop today was Lava Butte, we took a bus to the top and they give you 20 minutes to enjoy the views.  We are surrounded by lava fields then forest and then in the distance you see mountains.  Until you go West, I don't think you can grasp how much volcanic action formed our country.
We are now back in Bend for two more nights.
