Snow Scene #5

5" x 5" original watercolor $300.00
contact: andy@andysmithartist.com

This snow scene is from our friends property
in Hill, NH. It was last years snow fall. Fresh
snow with a blue sky and plenty of shadows.

We were with friends over the weekend so I only painted
a little bit. We had a great time and it felt like a mini vacation.
Today is Martin Luther King Day and I feel I owe much to
the past. If the price had not been paid I would not be painting
for a living nor could I be married to Linda and have a daughter.
My own mother clearly remembers the days when she had to
sit on the back of the bus and gave birth to me in a "blacks only"
hospital. My parents made it clear I had to be at my very best.
I have visited where Dr. King was born and where he died.
I feel truly privileged.

Love your paintings. They are the highlight of my day.

Thank you so much. Any suggestions, something you would like me to paint, anything you would like me to talk about???

I enjoy your blogs almost as much as your paintings. Makes me feel like you and your family are old friends.

Thankyou! The plan for the journal part of the blog was to give my opinion of the painting, to educate my viewer in the arts and to share my daily routine. I want you to feel like an old friend. I want you to know how a purchase keeps me going financially and emotionally. I also want you to feel like you can ask questions and offer opinions! So...I sincerely thank you. Andy

I was wondering if you could possibly start an online class? Also, I would like to see you paint a log cabin...and I guess I'm pushing my luck with so many requests...but, I would like to know how you paint brickwork so nicely.

I have to think how an on line class could possibly work. Who knows... It would be good if you could come to the studio for a class. How far away are you? I occasionally offer weekend workshops. Watch my website under "classes". I need to look for a log cabin subject but I have no problem painting one. As for the brick work, I do it like everything else. A good drawing, the lines for the bricks, and then layers of color to build it to where it looks impressionistic but real! Did I mention PRACTICE!! Andy

Discovered your website quite by accident ... after reading your blogs and comments on your paintings, I'm struck by your total enthusiasm for what you do ... It's inspiring. I need some inspiration right now. Since my own work is quite flat at the moment. Since I live locally to you, perhaps I'll attend a couple of your classes. See if your enthusiasm will rub off. I'll be in touch. Dave

Dave, there is to much great inspiring subjects out there for you to be flat! You just may not have the skills yet to achieve what is in your mind. Thats practice! I am happy to have you join me in class. See you Tuesday! Andy

I would love to attend one of your classes, but I live in Kentucky. I met you last year at the Berea Craft Fair...do you think you will be back there again this year? (I hope!)

I am not sure if I will be at the Berea Show this year. I usually rotate that weekend. Plus with the cost of gas I really need to look how well I did. It was never a super great show, I just love the area. Is there an Art Association I could contact about teaching a weekend workshop? Any adult classes at the college I could contact?

I live in Lexington,KY...so I'm not sure about the classes they have open at Berea College. I'll ask around and let you know if I find out anything. I noticed in the above blog that Dave said his paintings were flat...well so are mine. I am so envious of the way you always have light highlights in your paintings. You really make them shine!
