Trip West #2
As I traveled west and crossed over into South Dakota;
I was blown away by the land, and its vastness.
Here I've used the bales of hay as the focal point
for the rolling hills in the background.

"Wood Pile"
4" x 6" original watercolor - sold
I am working on paintings from my trip "West"
This scene is from "The 1880 Town" just past
Mitchell, S.D. There are several things going on in
this painting. It's an interior still life but also a landscape.
Immediately your eye goes out the window to the post
in the field, soaking in the lush green pasture. Then you
slowly come back inside, following the sunlight
laying across the sill and the wood pile.

Friday update...on Thursday!
The weeks are flying by! I have had a few calls with
questions about the how and why of this blog. If you
need a little clarity please call or email and we can chat.
But, wait till Monday because I am off again for the
weekend. This time I am heading to Lewes, DE. I am
wishing the beach was sunny and warm and I was able
to ride my bike. Instead, I have snow to worry about!
Visit me at:
4th Annual Fine Art Show held at the Children's Beach
House on Cedar Street on Lewes Beach, DE.
Sat. 10-5 and Sun. 10-4 $5 admission

Window Study #4
A few days ago I painted this same room with the focus
on the floor behind the pew. Today, I placed your focus
to the front of the pew. It is interesting how things
change with just a few steps.

Warm Spot #3
In my real world it snowed...then sleet...a little rain and
back to snow. I spent most of my day shoveling. When
I came in to paint, I entered my own little world of summer
and sunshine. Happy Valentines Day!

Window Study #3
I am continuing my interior light study. I am intrigued
by the play of dramatic light across the floor and the pew.
There is a special patina to the wood found in the Hancock
Shaker Village and I have painted it often.

Window Study #2
I often study the play of light outside so I came
inside today. Drama... this window features
sunlight flooding into a darkened space.
The interior shutters offer a natural frame
for the subject.

Friday update...on Thursday!
I will not have a new painting for Friday this week.
My first show of the season is this weekend. I am
packed and leaving in the morning for Frederick, MD.
So, if you are anywhere in Maryland stop out and say
hello.
Cabin Fever Festival is held at the Frederick Fairgrounds.
Sat. 10-6 and Sun. 10-5 there is a coupon at:
www.cabinfeverfestival.com
The show features an odd mix of crafty crafts and nice quality.
The choices this time of year are slim but a living must be made!

Still Life #2
I am back to a still life. Today I am offering you
a muted study of a pewter tankard on a writing
table. Don't miss the night scene outside the window!

Peppers #1

I needed a change! These vibrant peppers were waiting to
be discovered in my kitchen. I had to stop what I was
working on to give them some attention!

Still Life #1
A traditional, historical subject bathed in a classic light
and shadow. This watercolor highlights my knack for
finding just the right time of day to paint. It features
pieces from one of my favorite places to get subject matter,
Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, MA

Friday update...
This week was hectic at my house.
The weather here in PA was cold, and I
don't like the cold! My themes this week were
very enjoyable. At my frantic pace everything
seems to explode off the end of the brush.
I explored a variety of compositions that I hope
you feel I achieved some success with. It is now
time for an indoor ride on my rollers! See you Monday.

Contrast Study #1
I departed from my usual style today.
Changing your frame of reference, I painted an
upstairs skylight. You are placed under the stairs while
looking up,to give you a sensation of height.

Window Study #1
I was drawn to this composition because of the texture
of the stone. It was a challenge to paint and hugely
satisfying to complete.
