The end of March... I now have three months of
"Painting A Day" under my brush. The paintings
continue to please me and each one I finish gives
me great pleasure. I had a harder time accomplishing
all I had to do this week since track is in full swing.
But I also thoroughly enjoy my kids, they are running
well and we won our scrimmage this week.
No show this weekend! I am in the studio working on
a large painting. If you are coming to Lititz and want to
stop in and watch me paint, or check out the studio;
call first, just to make sure I did not slip out for a bike ride!

New York City
through my "save for someday" photos and found
one a dear friend gave me. I have looked at the
photo often, waiting until I was ready to paint it.
It was taken before 911 and so it holds deep
meaning. It is way out of my painting comfort zone.
It required a more modern, lightly impressionistic touch.

Still Life #7
I painted this crock because of the handsome
blue slip. I was interested in the contrast of the
dark wood floor against the white cold surface
of the crock. Great study piece!

Still Life #6
As an artist, I can find inspiration by looking
around my house.I am surrounded by single
objects; like this bowl, that I think command
my attention. Then add just the right light...

Another Friday...
This was a great painting week! I enjoyed myself.
I went from a coyote to a garden to a barn and then
finished up with a waterlily. I bought a set of new
Da vinci watercolors and I am thrilled with the color
clarity I am getting. Hope you are also thrilled!
Track and Field is going well. I have 39 sprinters so
I am working hard. We are off to another great season.
For anyone trying to track me down... This week I am
exhibiting at The 5th Annual Juried Spring Festival.
held at the Kutztown University Field House in
Kutztown, PA Sat. 9-5 and Sun. 10-4

Waterlily
SOLD
Several years ago I started painting waterlilies.
I have always loved them and have visited many
water gardens to get my subjects.

Star Barn #2
Another painting of the famous Star Barn.
Today's focus is the cupola resting on top of the
main barn. I am showing the barns slow decline,
missing some windows and the silo roof.

Star Barn
Every artist in my area has painted the Star Barn.
It is an old barn on Rt 283 outside of Harrisburg, PA.
I have a print I did years ago but I wanted to go back
and study it again. This is how it looked back in the
1980's. The building had great architectural lines.
For info on the older print go to my website!

Trip West #7
I experimented today. This is a bit off the norm for me, but
in my early painting years I painted quite a bit of wildlife.
Yellowstone was full of surprises. One late afternoon as we
drove through the park there was a coyote! Strolling along
the side of the road, acting like we were not there.

Another Friday...
Snow... lots of the white stuff today. My show in
Lansdale, PA was cancelled. But not before I packed
the van and agonized how I was going to get there!
Since I am now home on Saturday, with nothing to
do but shovel, I plan to paint a blog painting.
So check it out over the weekend. This weather
has me bummed. How we can go from so beautiful and
warm early in the week to all this snow amazes me.
The blog; I am happy with the blog paintings. I was
worried I would be tired of it by now but oddly I
enjoy the variety. And, watching the bidding is stimulating!
So, place a bid and spread the word to anyone you think may
be interested!

It snowed today, a lot! I have said before I do not like
winter or snow. But I must admit it was beautiful.
So... in honor of the storm I painted a snow scene from
Yellowstone, WY. We were there in June, and they
also had a late season storm.

Apples
Tuesday was our local market day.
Choosing my apples is a major decision.
This weeks choice was Jonagold.
Great color but an even better flavor!

Still Life #4
Textures and light. I have moved inside again to
work with my favorite compositional tools. I used
the wood walls for texture and the hanging cloth
to pick up the light. This painting photographed
darker than the painting really is. The background
is a much lighter shade of a blue/grey. I tried several
times and could just not get it to match the original.

Another Friday...
Another Friday, they sure come quickly!
I really think this was a great painting week. I was
able to work on some of my favorite subjects. This
set of paintings allowed me to push the medium. To
explore texture and color depth. I know I am a bit
obsessed with the weather, I apologize, but my mind is on
the possibility of getting outside to ride. My other passion,
coaching Jr.Hi. Track and Field starts on Monday. I will
need to really budget my time wisely!!
No shows this weekend. If anyone is near Lititz, PA
and wants to stop at the studio, call first to make sure I am
not out riding! But I would be happy to have you stop in.

Summer
Warm and sunny is implied!
A welcoming white Adirondack chair is enveloped
in lush soft shades of green.

A still life study of a Shaker room. This is a place
I know well. I have visited several Shaker communities
and I find them an unlimited source of inspiration.

Amaryllis
We, actually my wife, has several amaryllis bulbs
she keeps and manages to have bloom every year.
It is a message of Spring for me. They appear in
our spare refrigerator in late fall and a few weeks
later they are in fresh pots on the windowsill. By
March these lifeless looking bulbs produce
magnificent blooms.
Spring is just around the corner!

Geraniums
A bit more snow is on the way here.
I long for warm weather...
Today I painted something to cheer me up!
Past their prime, these leggy geraniums made me
think of summer! I found them setting on a ledge,
hidden in the shade.

Trip West #5
I am still working on my travels. This night scene is a
view along the highway on the way to Cody, Wyoming.
I am featuring the great openness of land and that huge
sky filled with stars. So much grander that what we
experience on the East Coast

Friday update...
This week I tried to share some of my trip West.
Although almost four years ago the scenes and
colors are still etched in my minds eye. I hope you
enjoyed the journey through South Dakota.
It's been a stretch to get these five paintings in this week.
It was a busy week. Plus it's getting warm here in PA.
Almost spring like today. A little bit hard for me to stay focused!
Ohhh...the road and cycling are calling me! But no time for a ride.
This Saturday and Sunday you can find me exhibiting
at Owen J. Roberts 27th Annual Craft Show, held at the
Owen J. Roberts Middle School at Rts. 23 & 100 in
Pottstown - Chester County, PA. 10AM to 4PM
Good quality art and craft. Stop and see me!

I went for color today. An outpost somewhere in
South Dakota. I was fascinated by this place; with its
red paint contrasting with all that surrounding green.
