2011 Shaker Still Life #5

4"x 6" original watercolor
$250.00 Contact the Studio

A different view...

I picked up a stomach bug and have been
out of commission for a few days. I rarely
get sick and I was too sick to even ride my
bike over the weekend! I did not even paint.
Feeling much better today and managed a
few hours with the brushes. March classes
start tomorrow.

2011 Shaker Still Life #4

6"x 4" Miniature Watercolor
Studio Price: $300.00 ~ SOLD!

I just cannot get the color to match the painting.
I photographed it and scanned it and it lost
something...
This little painting is stunning. I spent an extra
2 hours rendering the wood and getting the
simple yet complex composition correct. It
actually glows. I wish you could see it in person.

2011 Shaker Still Life #2

4"x 6" original watercolor
$275 Studio Price ~ SOLD!

A ladderback in the sunshine...
Love all things Shaker, but I cannot rush
through these little paintings. They still
take me 5-8 hours to paint. Last night (late!)
I picked my subject and did a sketch in my
sketchbook. This morning I took 2 hours to
hand draw it onto my watercolor paper.
There are no short cuts just because it is little!

And again we are shoveling. I tried hard to have
a good attitude this winter. I really did, but after
that little warm spell, that tease, I have lost all
patience. I need it to be warm, I must ride my
bike, I have to see the sun!!

"Rosa's Picks" as a favorite! Thank you Rosa!!

I went back to my old love...Shaker Still Life
I had a hard time starting today, just did not feel
like painting. I think the forcasted snow has me
feeling blue. But I forced myself to sit down and
picked a subject I enjoy and painted away.

Male Cardinal

4"x 6" miniature watercolor
$275.00 Contact the Studio... SOLD

This is a beautiful looking male, a mate to Friday's
female cardinal. Same icy tree! Again, thank you to
Amy Hoyer for the use of her photos, they were
perfect reference material!

I had a question about our bottle tree... we do this
every year for years. We take our leftover Christmas
tree and move it outside for winter so all the birds
can enjoy it. Then on the first warm day, Linda cuts
off all the branches. We find an empty spot and set it
in the garden. Then she adds bottles, this one has all blue
bottles, they add great color to the garden. Since the tree
is different every year the shape changes with each new
tree. We have one at the front of the house that has
wine bottles from special occasions, this one is out all year.

Female Cardinal

4"x 6" watercolor
$275.00 Studio Price ~ SOLD!

I need to give credit to one of my watercolor
students, Amy Hoyer who happens to be a
pretty good photographer. She allowed me to
use her photo for reference. This was from
the ice storm we had a few weeks back.
When I first started painting, years ago, I painted
lots of wildlife; I never thought of myself as
a "wildlife" painter, but I still enjoy it occasionally.

For the past few days I have caught Linda gazing
longingly out into the gardens... usually it's me who is
antsy to get outside. I finally rode my bike this morning
managing 23 miles and it felt GOOD!!!
This afternoon I followed Linda out onto the patio,
I painted while she puttered. You can see a the cut up Christmas tree that is
being prepped for our new Bottle Tree.

Gettysburg Battlefield in the Snow #10

6"x4" watercolor ~ SOLD!
$250.00 Studio Price

This is my last Battlefield painting!
I painted 10 miniatures and 1 large painting.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself but I am ready to
move on. Thank you for indulging me, it has
been a great study in snow, fields, barns and
wintry skies.

I missed yesterdays blog, I taught a morning class,
then took Rashetta to Maryland to visit her other
family and by the time I returned to Lititz it was dinner
time and then I had my evening class.
So there was no blog painting accomplished. Sometimes
life gets to complicated!
But it was great having Rashetta home for a visit.

Today I spent a few hours with a young artist "Corey".
He came for a visit and some encouraging words.
I see potential and some of the same frustrations
I had when I started. It is easy to forget after 30
years of painting how hard it was when learning the
craft, working through the mental roadblocks, juggling
time and the desire to paint. The feelings of insecurity.
Not measuring up to the idea in your head...
I hope to have the pleasure of working with him, I can help
with the painting and leave the rest up to Linda!

Next week is the last "Drop In Class" $15 class for February.
March starts a new set of 4 classes ~ $60.00 ~ 4 sets of
2hr classes. Limited to 8 students ~ call/email to sign up.
Click here to see some of my students new work.

6"x 4" Watercolor
$250.00 Contact the Studio

I am still enjoying the battlefield!

Extra busy day today. Rashetta is here from CA
for a visit and I had to drive down to Smyrna, DE
to pick her up. 4 hour round trip. Then I took
my buddy Ray for PT and I painted while waiting for
him. I got home in time to take my two ladies out
for a movie; Black Swan ~ good but disturbing!
Home for a requested Taco dinner and I finished
my blog. Just another day in the life of an artist!

Thought I would do a night scene.
A little moon glow across the snow.
I am not tired of the Battlefield so I
have a few more planned.

The weather finally cooperated and I had
a full class this morning. Then I went to
market; which I love. Back home with some
fruit and veggies. Another class tonight
while Linda heads to yoga.
A full day.

A farm on the Battlefield.

Today was a day I had to make myself paint.

a little something to do with the weather.
